Through the case of unrecognized Genocide in Sri Lanka, this film works to expose the consumption and fetishizing of the death of people of color. We are numb to the death of Black and Brown people. The genocide of Tamil people by the Sri Lankan state is a modern catastrophe that was ignored by the media, endorsed by powerful nation states, and ignored by millions. Understanding that while genocide is technically defined, those that define it poses their own biases and motivations that incite preferences to particular groups.
This goes back to the age old question: whose lives are valued, and whose deaths are remembered?
